Privacy
Dallah is designed to work mostly in your browser. This notice explains what stays on your device, what leaves it, and which services receive data.
Who is responsible
Dallah is an independent project by Grimm Van Gestel. For privacy questions, corrections or requests, use the contact form.
Data kept on your device
Study progress, preferences, saved words and completed AI conversation context are stored in your browser using local storage. Dallah does not create an account or copy that local study record to its own database. The in-app reset clears active study data but keeps a local recovery copy. Clear site data in your browser to erase both active data and that recovery copy; separately delete any backups you downloaded.
AI tutor and live search
The tutor sends the text of your current question and limited recent conversation context to Google Gemini only when you press the send button. If you enable live search in Region & context, the latest question is also sent to Tavily so it can retrieve web references. Do not submit names, contact details, confidential material, health information or anything else you would not want processed by these services.
Dallah does not save tutor requests in an application database. Google states that Gemini API prompts and responses may be retained for a limited period for abuse monitoring; its current abuse-monitoring documentation specifies 55 days. Provider terms and retention can change. Read the Gemini abuse-monitoring notice, Google Privacy Policy and Tavily Privacy Policy.
Purposes, legal bases and recipients
Where European data protection law applies, processing needed to deliver, secure and improve the requested site is based on legitimate interests in operating a safe educational service. Processing a tutor or search request happens only after you choose to submit it. Feedback is processed to answer your message and improve the project. Recipients are limited to the infrastructure, AI, search, font, media, human-check and email providers described here. These providers may process data outside the EEA under the safeguards described in their own terms and privacy material.
Hosting, fonts and external media
Vercel hosts Dallah and may process IP addresses, request details and security logs needed to deliver and protect the site. The standard fonts are served from dallah.fyi itself. Only the optional reading fonts you choose in Readability & theme, and the six calligraphy typefaces on the Calligraphy page, are loaded from Google Fonts, and only after you choose them. When you load the calligraphy typefaces, this browser remembers that choice (key dallah-fonts) and loads them again when you return to that strip. Some museum and reference media may be requested from Wikimedia Commons when displayed. Those providers receive normal web-request data such as your IP address, browser information and the requested URL. See Vercel's Privacy Notice.
Visit statistics
Dallah uses Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights, provided by Vercel Inc., to see how the site is used and how fast it loads. No cookies are set and nothing is stored on your device for this. Vercel recognises a visit for one day by a hash computed from request data. The hash is not stored and changes daily. Visitors therefore cannot be followed across days or across other websites.
The statistics include the page or section address visited (for example /poetry), the referring website, country, browser, operating system and device type. Speed Insights collects anonymous loading-speed measurements. No study progress, saved words, notes or tutor questions are part of it.
We use the statistics to understand which parts of Dallah are used and to keep the site fast. They are not used for advertising or profiling, not combined with other data and not sold. Only the site owner sees them, in the Vercel dashboard, and they are aggregated: counts per page, country and device. Vercel keeps them for the reporting period of the plan in use, currently one month.
Vercel is a US company. Transfers rely on Vercel's data processing terms and the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. See the Vercel Web Analytics privacy policy and the Vercel Speed Insights privacy policy.
The statistics run only after you allow them. On your first visit a short notice asks; your answer (yes or no) is remembered in your browser's local storage. You can change it at any time in Readability & theme under "Anonymous visit statistics". Browsers that send a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal are never measured.
Contact form, feedback and external links
The Contact page has a form. When you press send, the message you wrote, the topic you chose, the optional name and email address you typed (the email address is only used so we can reply), the language of the site and the section you were reading are sent to Dallah's server. A Cloudflare Turnstile check runs first to keep out bots; Cloudflare receives the check token and your IP address for that. The server passes the message on by email through Resend, an email delivery service, to the site owner. Dallah does not store the message or the form data anywhere on the site, and nothing is added to your browser. A copy of the email exists in the mailboxes and in Resend's delivery logs. Please do not write anything confidential. If the form is unavailable, the page says so and you can try again later.
Ordinary feedback is kept for up to 24 months after the last exchange, unless it is needed longer for a legal claim or obligation. Links to other websites leave Dallah; their own privacy and cookie notices apply. See the Resend Privacy Policy and the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
Cookies and browser storage
Dallah uses no cookies at all. A short notice on your first visit explains this and asks whether the anonymous visit statistics described above may run; they stay off until you allow them. Dallah still uses browser local storage for the functions described above and a service worker/cache for offline performance.
Your choices and rights
You can study without using the AI tutor or live search, switch off the anonymous visit statistics, clear local data, block third-party requests in your browser, or use the contact form about access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection or portability where applicable. People in the EEA may also complain to their local data protection authority.
This notice describes the product as deployed on the date above. It is not a certification of compliance and is not legal advice.
Successful tutor questions and answers are saved on this device as Study book notes and included in progress backups. Rejected requests are not saved as study notes. Resetting clears active notes but keeps them in the local recovery copy. Clear browser site data and separately delete downloaded backups to erase those copies too.
